Junior midfielder Leo Elizalde’s game-winning bicycle kick goal earned him the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week award for events of October 10-16. He becomes the second Stars men’s soccer player to receive the award, as Lio Tovar was honored in back-to-back weeks earlier this season.
Elizalde (Wheeling, Ill.) knocked in his impressive goal just two minutes into the second overtime against MSOE on October 15 to give the Stars the 2-1 victory. The goal was also his third game-winner of the season on four total goals.
Leo’s play earned him the award over eight other nominees: Ethan Cashen, Aurora; Orlando Esparza, Benedictine; Chris Jahns, Concordia Chicago; Zach Lemler, Concordia Wisconsin; Kyle Koenig, Edgewood; Farouk Dadzie, Lakeland; Kevin Vigneault, Maranatha; and Garrett Farin, MSOE.
The Stars continue play this afternoon, October 19, at Rockford College in a 3:30 p.m. match, where they will look to stay undefeated in NAC play. The remainder of their regular season schedule also includes an October 22 matchup versus Concordia Wisconsin (1 p.m.), and a trip across town to Concordia Chicago on October 25 (3 p.m.).
