Dominican University Athletics

After leading the Dominican University men's volleyball team to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament Elite Eight and claiming the number six spot in the AVCA Men's Division III Final Poll, Alex Coyne was named the Dominican University Male Athlete of the Year for the 2016-2017 academic year the department of athletics announced on Friday morning.
 
Coyne was named AVCA 1st Team All-American and All-MCVL First Team after leading the Stars to the first conference division and conference tournament championship in program history and a 26-3 overall record.  On the season, Coyne averaged 10.6 assists per set to rank third nationally while leading Dominican to a .313 attack percentage, second-best in the country.  Coyne rounded out his senior season with 1.79 digs per set, logging three double-doubles along the way.
