Stars Pick Up First NAC Road Victory

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's volleyball program made history earlier this season with their first-ever Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victory, defeating Marian College at home on September 29, and now the Stars picked up their first-ever NAC road win, defeating MSOE 3-1 (30-23, 23-30, 30-22, 30-17) in Milwaukee, Wis. on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) just missed the Stars' second triple-double of the season, totaling 30 assists and 18 digs with eight kills. Niemczewska, a 5'8" setter, is looking to become just the eighth player in the history of the Stars' women's volleyball program to reach the 600-assist plateau in a season, currently boasting 554 assists the season, averaging over seven assists per game.

Freshman Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) tallied a team-high 13 kills for the Stars and added to her team-lead in blocks on the season with three total blocks. a 5'9" middle, Kiepura posted a .286 attack percentage on the night with just five errors on 28 attack attempts.

Fellow freshmen Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO), Michael Ann Kelly (Dwight, IL) and Ashley Gans (Park Forest, IL) each had a solid night. Kammeier, the team's leader in kills on the season, reached double-digits in kills for the 15th consecutive match, posting 10 kills on the night. Kelly and Gans logged eight kills apiece while Kelly added 17 digs and Gans added two solo blocks.

Sophomores Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, IL) and Lindsey Cochran (Bradley, IL) paced the Stars' defense with 20 digs and 18 digs respectively as the Stars had four players reach double-digits in digs.

With the win the Stars' overall record improves to 6-16 and their NAC record moves to 2-6 with just seven matches remaining in the regular season. On Tuesday, October 16, the Stars will host Alverno College for a 7:00 p.m. in the Dominican University's Igini Sports Forum.
