Stars Stomp Neighborhood Rival in Battle of Division

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University men's soccer team stuffed the stat sheet in an 8-0 win over Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) foe and neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday afternoon. Seven different scored a goal and six players logged at least one assist as the Stars controlled the pace of play, holding a 46-2 advantage in shots and a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Reigning NAC Student-Athlete of the Week, Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL) scored two goals, his ninth and tenth of the season, and now has seven goals in the Stars' last three contests.

The Stars didn't net the first goal of the game until the 41st minute as freshman Milan Sokolovic scored his first collegiate-career goal with assists from Jose Ramirez (Chicago, IL) and Carlos Rojas (Chicago, IL). Less than three minutes later, Rojas tallied his first goal of the season to put the Stars ahead 2-0 at the half.

Juan Saldana (O'Fallon, MO) netted his third goal of the season in the 54th minute before Jose Ramirez and Pamukov each logged a goal in the 64th minute to put the Stars ahead 5-0. Sophomore Stan Micic (Mt. Prospect, IL) netted the Stars' sixth goal of the game before Pamukov notched his second score of the game. Sophomore Ernesto Ramirez (Chicago, IL) capped off the Dominican offensive attack with his first career goal in the 89th minute.

Junior Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) and freshman Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, IL) each recorded three assists in the winning effort for the Stars, while Jose Ramirez added two assists and Saldana, Rojas and Nick Kowalski (Niles, IL) each added one assist.

The Stars will wrap up the NAC regular season on Saturday as they host MSOE for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff on Dominican's West Campus Field. The Stars will then travel to Whitewater, Wis. next Wednesday to take on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks in a match up of two of the top eight NCAA Division III teams in the Central Region.
