The Dominican University men's soccer team snapped a nine-game winning streak with a 1-1 tie against Aurora University in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Stars' Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, IL), a 6'0" freshman, scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage. Junior Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) assisted on the play, picking up a point in his tenth straight game, giving the ball to Kapusta on a give-and-go to set up the freshman for his first goal of the season.
The Stars retained the lead all the way until the game's 78th minute as the Spartans' Tyler Klotz ripped a shot that deflected off a Dominican defender before finding its way into the Stars' net.
The best scoring opportunity in either overtime came just five minutes into the first overtime as Dominican's Rigoberto Barajas (Cicero, IL) picked up a red card just outside the Stars' box. On the restart, the Spartans' Danny May ripped a shot that Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL), the Stars' goalkeeper, punched over the cross bar.
The Stars now stand at 9-2-1 on the season and 5-0-1 in the NAC. They will return to action on Saturday as they host Concordia University (WI) in a rematch of last year's conference tournament championship game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Dominican's West Campus Field.
