Box Score

River Forest, Ill. - Dominican's Mary Hoemeyer (Hazelwood, MO) logged a goal and an assist to lift the Stars past the MSOE Raiders 2-0 in the opening round of the 2007 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament.

Sophomore Dulce Melo (Chicago, IL) netted her first game-winning goal of the season as she scored off a corner kick for the Stars in the 33rd minute. Sophomore Anna Rudel (Chicago, IL) put the corner into the MSOE goalbox where Hoemeyer flicked to Melo for the Stars' first score of the game.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Stars into the second half until Hoemeyer added an insurance goal in the 70th minute. Freshman Jennifer Piggot (Spring Grove, IL) played a ball over the MSOE defense that Mayra Camacho tracked down. Camacho then crossed the ball to Hoemeyer who blasted a one-timer past the MSOE goalkeeper.

Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) picked up her fifth shutout of the season, lowering her goals against average to 1.52 and improving to 12-7-0 on the year. Lani logged four saves in the winning effort as Dominican outshot their NAC counterpart 17-11 for the day.

The win advances Dominican to the semifinals of the NAC Tournament for the second time in as many years. The Stars will travel to Madison, Wis. on Thursday to take on the Edgewood College Eagles. The Stars will be looking to avenge a 4-1 loss at the hands of Edgewood back on September 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
