Nov. 12, 2007

Box Score

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University Stars ended the 2007 season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 overtime loss at the hands of the Washington University (MO) Bears in Whitewater, Wis. in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Championship. The Stars' winners 17 of their final 20 games of the season, failed to find the back of the net for just the fourth time all season and just the second time in their final 20 games.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie into the 99th minute when the Bears' Ryan Grandin, a sophomore forward, headed the ball past Dominican's goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL). Sliwa had logged three saves up to that point with the Bears posting four shots on goal in the game.

Dominican held a 10-9 advantage in shots on the game and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks but failed to attempt a shot in the overtime period, while surrendering two shots to the Bears in the extra frame.

The bid to the national tournament was the fourth trip to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship for seniors Elvin Perez (Chicago, IL) and Seth Fallik (Overland Park, KS) and the sixth bid for the program in as many years since joining the NCAA Division III ranks in 2002.
