The Dominican University Stars outscored the Rockford College Regents 35-34 in the second half, but could not overcome a 29-25 first half deficit, as they fell to the Regents 63-60 in the Stars' first Northern Athletics Conference contest of the season.
Sophomore Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) poured in a game-high 22 points on 9-ofr-13 shooting from the field for the Stars in the losing effort. The 5'10" forward converted on four of five free throw attempts and added eight rebounds, including four offensive rebounds, in 38 minutes of work.
Junior Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN) added 14 points and Wioleta Koziol (Mt. Prospect, IL) chipped in 11 points as the Stars shot near forty percent from the field (22-for-56) in the game but logged 24 turnovers in the contest compared to just 14 for the Regents.
Dominican also surrendered 21 offensive rebounds to the Regents, surrendering 15 second-chance points and was outscored by the Rockford bench 27-6.
The Stars return to NAC action on Saturday as they travel to Aurora University to take on the Spartans. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Aurora's Thornton Gymnasium.
