The Dominican University men's soccer team opened conference play with a 5-0 drubbing of Maranatha Baptist Bible College. The Stars logged 34 shots, with 14 shots on goal. The Stars hit the cross bar twice and hit three posts en route to the Northern Athletics Conference victory.
Junior Nick Wisniewski (Carol Stream, IL) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 24th minute. The goal, assisted by Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL), was Wisniewski's first goal of the season and the sixth of his career.
Kochanowski added to his team lead with three goals of his own and now has seven goals and three assists on the season. Alex Rowley (Lake Zurich) notched the Stars' other tally in the 81st minute to cap off the scoring. The Stars outshot the Crusaders 34-3 on the day and held an 18-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) picked up the win for the Stars in goal, picking up his second shutout of the season.
With the win the Stars improved to 4-2-0 on the season and are currently riding a four-game winning streak after opening the season with back-to-back losses to Hamline University and University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
Tomorrow the Stars will host Marian College for the second NAC contest in as many days. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Dominican's West Campus Field.
