The Dominican University women's tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) matches on Saturday, defeating Lakeland College 9-0 in the morning session but falling to Marian College 6-3 in the afternoon.
Senior Bozana Durman (Cicero, IL) was the only Stars' player to sweep the day in singles play, knocking off both of her NAC counterparts in the Stars' number three singles slot. Durman disposed of her Lakeland's opponent 6-0, 6-0 and then knocked of Marian's number three singles competitor in a tight match 7-5, 6-4.
In the loss to Marian, Gina Cesario (Addison, IL) and Molly Nolan (Shorewood, IL) both lost in a third set tie-breaker as the Stars' number four and five singles respectively. Cesario lost the first set 6-3 but bounced back to take the second set 7-6 before losing the tie-breaker 6-3. Nolan took the first set of her singles match 6-3 but then fell in the last two sets 6-4, 6-4.
The Stars, now 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the NAC, return to the courts on Tuesday when they travel to Lisle, IL to take on the Benedictine University Eagles. Doubles play is set to start at 3:00 p.m. with singles play to follow.
