The Dominican University women's volleyball program fell to 3-12 on the season, dropping a heartbreaker at North Park University 3-2 (30-21, 26-30, 30-22, 32-34, 15-13) on Tuesday evening.
A pair of freshmen led the Stars' offensive attack with Ashley Gans (Park Forest, IL), a 6'2" middle, and Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) logging 11 kills apiece. Michael Ann Kelly (Dwight, IL), a freshman outside hitter, added ten kills and sophomore Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL), the Stars' setter, tallied 28 assists and seven kills in the losing effort.
Defensively, the Stars posted 99 digs as a team in the five-game match. Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, IL), a sophomore from Glenbard North, paced the team with 24 digs while Niemczewska added 17 digs. Kammeier and fellow freshman Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) posted five total blocks apiece, each logging four block assists and one solo block. As a team the Stars tallied 12 total blocks.
Dominican returns to the courts on Friday, hosting Lakeland College for a 7:00 p.m. match in Dominican's Igini Sports Forum. The Stars then host Marian College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. match.
