The Dominican University women's volleyball picked up their first-ever win in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) and first win at home since the end of the 2005 season, defeating the Marian College Sabres in four games 30-26, 27-30, 30-19, 30-15.
Freshman Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) logged a school record 11 aces in the match and racked up a game-high 20 kills on 52 attacks. The 5'8" outside hitter rounded out her performance with a team-high 18 digs. Kammeier's 20 kills was a career-high for the rookie in the team's 17th match of the season.
Sophomore Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) racked up 45 assists in the match and tallied 17 digs for a double-double effort and recorded four aces while freshman Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) just missed a double-double as she logged 12 kills, nine digs and five blocks.
As a team, the Stars set a university record for aces in a match with 26 aces. In addition to Kammeier's 11 and Niemczewska's four, sophomore Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, IL) logged four aces, while Kiepura and freshman Michael Ann Kelly (Dwight, IL) tallied three apiece and sophomore Jenna Romano (Norridge, IL) had one ace.
The win improved the Stars' overall record to 4-13 on the season and pushed their conference record to 1-3. They will return to the court on Tuesday night, October 2, as they host Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
