Stars Soar Past Eagles

River Forest, Ill. - The Dominican University women's basketball team, fueled by a 19-4 run over the game's final five minutes, picked up their first Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victory of the season as they knocked off Benedictine University 74-62 at Dominican on Tuesday night.

Junior guard Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN) scored 22 of her game-high 31 points in the second half going 4-for-5 from the field and 14-for-16 from the free throw line despite playing just 12 minutes in the second period due to foul trouble. For the game, Trent led three Stars' players in double-digit scoring figures as she shot a blistering 8-for-13 from the field and converted on 15 of her 17 trips to the charity stripe. Trent rounded out her night with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Sophomores Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) and Lisa Julkowski (Chicago, IL) added 12 points and 11 points respectively in the winning effort. Salinas added a team-high seven rebounds while Julkowski tallied a team-best three steals.

As a team the Stars took full advantage of their trips to the free throw line, converting on 28 of 34 attempts from the charity stripe in the game, including going 22-for-26 from the foul line in the second half.

Defensively, Dominican held Benedictine to just 30.1 percent shooting from the field, including holding Tamika Curtis, the NAC's second-leading scorer, to 17 points on 6-for-22 shooting from the field.

The Stars return to action on Saturday as they travel to Fon du Lac, Wis. to take on the Marian College Sabres. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
