The Dominican University Stars came from behind to win a thrilling five-set match over the MSOE Raiders on Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action. The Stars trailed the Raiders 2-1 after the first three sets but posted victories in both the fourth and fifth sets 25-20 and 15-10.
Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) posted a game-high 21 kills on 50 attack attempts to lead the Stars' offense along with setter Kimberly Wakeman (Indianapolis, IN) who logged 34 assists. Freshman Evelyn Gamboa (Chicago, IL) chipped in nine kills in the winning effort.
Defensively, the Stars were led by Wakeman and Kammeier who both posted double-doubles on the night with 17 digs and 16 digs respectively. Libero Megan Moore (Glendale Heights, IL) added 12 digs while junior Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) logged 11 digs. At the net, the Stars posted eight blocks, with Gamboa leading the way with three total blocks, including two solo blocks and one block assist.
Dominican travels to Dallas, Texas for their next three matches. The Stars will play the University of Dallas on Friday and then Dominican will take on University of St. Thomas (TX) and Mid-America Christian University on Saturday afternoon.
