Women's Tennis Fights Off Cougars

River Forest, IL - The Dominican University women's tennis team picked up their fourth win of the season as the fought off neighborhood and Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) rival Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday afternoon 5-4.

The Stars opened the dual match managing to win just one of the three matches in doubles play. Sophomores Nadia Pencheva (Hoffman Estates, IL) and Courtney Bates (Bolingbrook, IL) trounced the Cougars number three doubles team 8-1.

With the Stars trailing 2-1 entering singles play, senior Julia Filipski (St. Charles, IL) knocked off her number one singles opponent 7-6, 6-0. The win improved Filipski's individual record in singles play to 7-6 on the season and 5-4 in the NAC.

After dropping the number two and three singles flights, Dominican's Krystal Glass (Elk Grove Village, IL), Pencheva and Rosa Flores (Burnham, IL) picked up wins at numbers four, five and six singles respectively. Glass won the four singles flight 6-3, 6-1 while Pencheva swept the five singles flight 6-0, 6-0 and Flores edged out the Cougars' number six singles competitor 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

The Stars now enter the NAC Championships with an overall record of 4-9, going 3-7 in conference play.
