The Dominican University women's volleyball team climbed above the .500 mark for the first time since 2004 as they knocked off Alverno College in three sets 25-13, 25-15, 25-17. The win was the Stars' fifth win in a row, ninth in their last ten games, and improved their overall record to 14-13.
Freshman setter Kimberly Wakeman (Indianapolis, IN) doled out 30 assists in the match with sophomore Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, IL) and Anka Niemczewska (Vernon Hills, IL) leading the way with nine kills and eight kills respectively. Kiepura posted a .474 attack percentage with nine kills on 19 total attacks with no errors. It was the fourth straight match where the 5'9" middle failed to commit an error. During that stretch, Kiepura has logged 56 total attack attempts and has racked up 35 kills for a .625 attack percentage.
Defensively, the Stars posted 58 digs in the match, with sophomore Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, MO) logging a match-high 11 digs.
The Stars, now 5-4 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC), will host Aurora University on Friday evening before traveling to Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon. Dominican will then wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, October 29, as they host Rockford College.
