The Dominican University women's soccer team topped the North Park University Vikings on Friday afternoon 4-0, in the Stars' final non-conference regular season game of the 2008 season. Four freshmen combined to score three goals and tally two assists in the winning effort for the Stars.
Freshman Liz Phipps (Bloomington, IL) notched the game's first score on a penalty kick in the 16th minute after fellow freshman Nallely Arreola (Wheeling, IL) was taken down inside the Vikings' box. Phipps buried the PK in the lower left corner to put the Stars ahead for good at 1-0.
Minutes later, freshman Wesley Madison (Gilbert, AZ) logged her first goal of the season, beating the Vikings' goalkeeper in the 18th minute with Arreola picking up her sixth assist of the season.
The score remained 2-0 into the second half when Arreola tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 57th minute with an assist from freshman Karly Kuranda (St. Charles, IL) who leads the team with nine assists. Sophomore Rosa Andreuccetti (Elmhurst, IL) added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute as the Stars cruised the 4-0 win.
Dominican outshot the Vikings 10-7 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Stars will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday as they host Alverno College in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Dominican's West Campus Field.
