The Dominican University women's soccer team closed out the 2008 regular season with a 5-0 win over Alverno College on Tuesday afternoon. The win improved the Stars to 10-2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) and 12-6-1 overall, giving the Stars their third straight winning season under Head Coach Jeff Halsema.
Sophomore Michelle Reynoso (Burbank, IL) logged what proved to be the game-winning score for the Stars, tallying the game's first goal in the seventh minute of play. Freshmen Nallely Arreola (Wheeling, IL) and Kelly Rounce (Downers Grove, IL) both assisted on the goal.
Arreola contributed on four of the Stars' five goals, assisting on three scores and netting Dominican's final score as she beat the Alverno goalkeeper in the 90th minute. Sophomore Rosa Andreuccetti (Elmhurst, IL) notched a pair of goals for the Stars and now has five on the season, while Mary Hoemeyer (Hazelwood, MO) scored her first goal of the season after scoring three goals as a freshman in 2007.
The Stars will next play in the NAC women's soccer tournament which is scheduled to begin this weekend. The date and time of the game is yet to be determined as the conference regular season wraps up on Wednesday.
