The Dominican University men's soccer closed out their third straight undefeated season in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with an 8-0 victory over the Benedictine University Eagles on Wednesday afternoon. The Stars, 11-0-0 in NAC play this season, are 30-0-1 in the NAC regular season since the conference's inception in 2006.
Lionel Tovar (Cicero, IL) tallied the game-winning goal in the 17th minute to jump start the Stars' offense which is currently ranked second in the nation at 4.38 goals per game. The goal was the freshman midfielder's ninth goal of the season and his team-best seventh game-winner.
Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, IL) and Edwin Rodriguez (Chicago, IL) logged two goals apiece for the Stars with Kapusta adding a pair of assists, upping his season total to 14 assists and tying him for the team lead.
Freshmen Edwin Lagunas (Waukegan, IL) and Aaron Romo (Chicago, IL) each added a goal along with senior Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) who notched his team-leading 16th goal of the season.
The Stars now enter the NAC Men's Soccer Tournament as the tournament's top seed and will await to see who they play in the semifinals on Tuesday, November 4. The game will be played on Dominican's West Campus Field with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
