The Dominican University Stars had a rough trip up to Mequon, Wis., for the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men's Basketball season opener against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, returning home with a 63-42 defeat after battling the season's first snowfall up into Wisconsin.
The Stars took their only lead of the game in the opening minute as Kyle Tipton (Milwaukee, WI) connected on the back-end of a pair of free throws to put Dominican ahead 1-0. After turnovers on the next two Dominican possessions, the Falcons finally got on the board to take the lead for good with over 17 minutes remaining in the first half and never looked back.
The Falcons lead by 12 at the break and opened up their lead to as many as 27 points during the second half en route to the 21-point victory.
Tipton and fellow senior Dan Borys (Crown Pointe, IN) led the Stars in scoring with 12 points and 11 points respectively, accounting for nine of Dominican's 14 field goals, while shooting 9-for-21 from the field. As a team the Stars managed to shoot just 14-for-56 in the contest, going 2-for-17 from three-point territory. In addition to their 25 percent shooting from the field, the Stars turned the ball over 25 times, including 18 first half turnovers.
The Stars will return to the court on Friday as they host Greenville College for Dominican's home opener as the second game of the River Forest Classic's doubleheader, featuring Concordia Chicago against Millikin College in the night's first game. The Stars will then travel down Division to Concordia Chicago on Saturday where they will face Millikin.
