Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win of the 2008-2009 Campaign

River Forest, IL - Dominican University's Kyle Tipton (Milwaukee, WI) led all scorers, pouring in 18 points to help the Stars to their first win of the season, 75-63 over Greenville College on Friday night. Tipton, 6-for-10 from the field, was one of four players for the Stars to score in double-figures with Jovan Turley (Grand Rapids, MI) adding 17, Dan Borys (Crown Point, IN) 16 and Milos Mandic (Munster, IN) chipping in 10 in the winning effort.

Greenville jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over the game's first minute and half, but the Stars answered with a five-point run of their own to knot the score at 5-5 with 18:15 remaining in the first half. With the Greenville Panthers leading 25-22 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half, the Stars went on a 9-0 run spanning two minutes and 38 seconds and capped by a Mandic lay-in to Dominican ahead 31-25 and the Stars would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Dominican shot over 40 percent from the field and over 78 percent from the foul line, leading by as many as 14 during the second half, en route to the 12-point win 75-63. Borys scored 12 and grabbed eight of his game-high 13 rebounds in the second half to secure the win for Dominican.

Greenville was led by forward LaPhonoso Ellis's 15 points while guard Deano Tull added 13 points in the losing effort.

Dominican will face Millikin University at 4:00 p.m. at Concordia University Chicago on Saturday for Day Two of the River Forest Classic. Millikin topped the Concordia Chicago Cougars 79-67 in the opening game of the classic at Dominican on Friday night.
