The Dominican University women's basketball team hosted the Eureka College Red Devils in non-conference action on Sunday and the Stars improved to 4-1 on the season with a 75-53 win behind a game-high 22 points from senior Lindsey Trent (Frankfort, IN).
Dominican jumped out to a 21-9 lead over the game's first nine minutes with Jessica Salinas (Bolingbrook, IL) scoring 13 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the field during the Stars' run including connecting on her first three-pointer of the season. Salinas finished the game with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting with four rebounds, one steal and a block in 19 minutes of playing time.
The Stars continued to extend their lead throughout the first half, taking a 17-point lead into the locker room at the break, 38-21. Dominican continued to extend their lead in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game at 73-46 on an old-fashioned four-point play by freshman Erin Hecker (Burbank, IL) who was fouled while knocking down a three-point jumper.
Junior Angel Betts (Pontiac, IL) chipped in 10 points for the Stars in the winning effort, going 3-for-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line, while freshman Danielle Miller (Centralia, IL) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Dominican will return to action on Saturday, January 3, as they travel to Mequon, Wis., to take on the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Stars will then return home to take on Illinois Institute of Technology on Tuesday, January 6.
