The Dominican University men's tennis team opened the 2008 campaign with a 5-4 victory over neighborhood and Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) rival Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday evening.
The Stars opened the day swiping the numbers one and three doubles flights while dropping the number two doubles flight in a super-tiebreaker. Freshman Andrew Vatterott (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Zlatan Hodzic (Chicago, IL) teamed together for the Stars in the number one doubles flight, knocking off their CUC counterpart 8-4 while freshman Matt Sarantopoulos (Mt. Prospect, IL) and sophomore Louis Hernandez (Green Bay, WI) teamed together at number three doubles for another 8-4 win.
In singles play, the Stars dropped flights one through three but rallied with Hodzic, Sarantopoulos and Hernandez posting wins as the Stars' number four, five and six singles respectively.
The Stars have four more dual matches this week. They will travel to Elmhurst College on Wednesday and then travel to Milwaukee on Saturday to take on MSOE in NAC action and Wartburg College. The Stars then return home on Sunday, hosting University of Dubuque for a 10:00 a.m. match.
