Stars Snap Skid With Doubleheader Win Over MSOE

River Forest, IL - The Dominican University baseball team got back on the winning track this weekend with a doubleheader sweep of the MSOE Raiders in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play on Sunday. The Stars put up four runs in the fifth inning of game one to cruise to an 11-3 win behind pitcher Mike Eifel (Midlothian, IL) and then scored two runs in the first inning of game two and never looked back, posting a 6-2 win behind Anthony Davey (Wellington, OH).

On the day, the Stars' offense banged out twenty hits, ten in each game, including three extra-base hits. Nate Mercado (Chicago, IL) logged three hits in game one, with a stolen base and a run scored while Michael Albert (Chicago, IL) scored four runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk, reaching on an error in the Stars' four-run fifth inning.

In game two, the Stars' three, four and five hitters provided all the offense the Stars needed, going a combined 6-for-14 at the plate with all six of the team's RBI. Colby Batchelor (Northridge, CA), hitting in the three hole for the first time in his career, went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Rich Sullivan (Chicago, IL), hitting in the fifth spot in the order, went 2-for-5 with three RBI, including an RBI double in the top of the first, the Stars only extra-base hit of the game.

On the mound, Eifel scattered three hits and three walks over eight innings while striking out six to pick up his team leading third win of the season, improving to 3-2 for his senior campaign. Eifel surrendered just one earned run before giving way to Michael Bargle (Stickney, IL) for the ninth inning.

Davey, a 5'10" lefty, improved to 2-2 on the year, as he scattered ten hits over eight innings while striking out four and walking none. Davey then gave way to freshman Matt Dehn (McHenry, IL) who pitched a perfect ninth inning.

Dominican now stands at 7-11 on the season and 2-4 in the NAC. They return to action on Monday afternoon as they host Rockford College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, IL.
