Box Score

River Forest, IL - The Dominican University Stars played their final non-conference game of the 2008 season on Wednesday, emerging with a 3-2 win over Elmhurst College. Senior George Hickey (Chicago, IL) picked up the win, throwing two innings in relief, scattering five hits while surrendering one run.

Hickey took over in the top of the eighth with a 2-1 lead. The 5'10" righty hadn't surrendered a single hit in his previous six appearances, spanning nine innings, but gave up a double to the first batter he faced. That runner eventually scored, knotting the game at 2-2, on base hit up the middle.

The Stars answered in the bottom of the eighth as Michael Albert (Chicago, IL) singled to right and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hickey. After a fly out to left, senior Ryan Tlusty (LaGrange, IL) hit a ground ball to third and reached on a throwing error that allowed Albert to score what proved to be the winning run.

The win was Dominican's eighth win in a row dating back to April 20. The Stars will wrap up the 2008 campaign on Thursday as they travel to Aurora University for the final Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) series of the season. The Stars will be looking to spoil the Spartans chances for a spot in the NAC Baseball Tournament.
