River Forest, IL -
The Dominican University Department of Athletics named Elvin Perez (Chicago, IL) the university's 2007-2008 Senior Scholar-Athlete. Perez, a four-year starter on the men's soccer team at Dominican, maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average throughout his four-years at Dominican University in order to be eligible for the award.
Perez graduated from Dominican earlier this month, receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in accounting.
In addition to his strong academic performance at the university, Perez compiled an impressive resume on the soccer field for the Stars appearing in 86 games and starting 81 games since 2004. During that span, the Stars defense, on which Perez was a staple as a center back, posted a 0.57 goals against average with 46 shutouts. During Perez's tenure with the Stars, Dominican earned four at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Tournament and won three conference regular season championships and two conference tournament championships.
Throughout his collegiate soccer career, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named Perez to its All-Region Team three times (2005, 2006, 2007) with two first team honors (2006, 2007) and one second team honor (2005). Earlier this year the NSCAA named Perez a First Team Scholar All-American, an honor he received for the first time in his career, and was also named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In addition to all of the national awards, Perez landed on four all-conference first teams.
