The Dominican University women's soccer team traveled down Division Street on Tuesday afternoon and returned home with a 5-0 victory over the Concordia University Chicago Cougars, improving their record to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC).
The Stars' all-time leading goal scorer, Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL) put the Stars on the scoreboard in the ninth minute, tallying her third goal of the year and first of three on the day, as she slipped in behind the Cougars' defense after a pass from junior Dulce Melo (Chicago, IL).
Two minutes later, freshman Karly Kuranda (St. Charles, IL) slipped a ball through the CUC defense that fellow freshman Nallely Arreola (Wheeling, IL) caught up to and beat the Cougars' goalkeeper to put the Stars ahead 2-0. Camacho extended the Stars' lead to 4-0 with back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes. The Stars then capped off the scoring as Kuranda netted her first score of the season with a goal in the 66th minute.
The Stars dominated possession throughout the entire 90 minutes of play, outshooting their NAC counterpart 23-6, putting 13 shots on goal compared the Cougars who managed just three shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Schulz (Redford, MI) picked up her second shutout in as many games, logging three saves in the winning effort.
The Stars will travel to Fon du Lac, Wis., on Saturday to take on the Marian College Sabres. Last season the Stars rolled over the Sabres on Dominican's home field, 6-0.
