Dominican's Tovar Breaks Scoreless Tie To Lead Men's Soccer Past Chicago

River Forest, IL - Dominican University's Lionel Tovar (Cicero, IL) broke a scoreless tie in the 47th minute to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage with just over 43 minutes to play in Dominican's 1-0 win over the University of Chicago Maroons on Tuesday afternoon.

After playing to a 0-0 tie in the first half, the Stars came out flying to start the second period. Just 1:44 into the half, Tovar received a ball from fellow freshman Edwin Lagunas (Waukegan, IL) and beat the Chicago goalkeeper from ten yards out. The score proved to be the game-winner, Tovar's first game-winning tally of his college career.

The win was the fourth shutout victory of the season for Dominican as the Stars improved to 4-2-0 on the 2008 campaign. Senior goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) picked up the win in net for Dominican, lowering his goals against average to 0.33 on the year as he has surrendered just two goals against in over 538 minutes in goal.

The Stars return home after back-to-back road games to play Lakeland College on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Dominican's West Campus Field.
