The Dominican University women's soccer extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-0 win over the Benedictine University Eagles in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior forward Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 16th minute of play as she settled the ball for a shot that beat the Eagles' goalkeeper after a shot by teammate Rosa Andreuccetti (Elmhurst, IL) was blocked by a Benedictine defender. The score was Camacho's first of two in the game and the Stars' leading scorer has eight goals in the last four wins for Dominican.
Camacho extended the Stars' lead to 2-0 in the 55th minute. Then in the 64th minute, Karly Kuranda (St. Charles, IL) tallied her second goal of the season. Just six minutes later, sophomore Michelle Reynoso (Burbank, IL) notched her second goal of the season with assists from Kuranda and junior Dulce Melo (Chicago, IL).
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Schulz (Redford, MI) picked up the win in goal for the Stars, improving to 4-0-0 on the season. Schulz split the shutout with junior Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, WI) who returned from an injury suffered in the second game of the season to play the final 26 minutes in goal for the Stars.
The Stars controlled possession throughout the match, holding a 25-2 advantage in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. In fact, the Eagles' lone shot on goal came in the opening minutes of play and was easily saved by Schulz who lowered her goals against average to 1.18.
The Stars are now 5-1-0 overall and remain perfect in the NAC, moving to 4-0-0 in the conference. The Stars will continue action in the NAC on Saturday as they host Lakeland College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Dominican's West Campus Field.
