Men's Soccer Buries Crusaders In Season Opener

River Forest, IL - The Dominican University men's soccer team enters the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) season a unanimous favorite to win the conference championship and began their quest for their third NAC title in as many years with an 8-0 drubbing of the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Monday.

Sophomore Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, IL) tallied the Stars' first score of the season in the 12th minute of play with assists from juniors Stan Micic (Mt. Prospect, IL) and Jose Miranda (Chicago, IL).

The score remained 1-0 with the Stars dominating possession into the 28th minute before senior Plamen Pamukov (Addison, IL) collected a rebound of a Matt Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, IL) shot and found the back of the net for the first of his three goals on the day, as the 6'1" midfielder notched his second career hat trick.

Kochanowski extended the Dominican University lead to 4-0 with back-to-back goals. Kochanowski's first score came unassisted in the 35th minute. Just nine minutes later Kochanowski beat the Crusaders' goalkeeper for his 57th career goal.

Freshman forward Edwin Lagunas (Waukegan, IL) scored a pair of second half goals, scoring the first two goals of his collegiate career.

Senior goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa (Chicago, IL) went virtually untested in the net for the Stars, logging just one save while picking up his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career.

The Stars extended their unbeaten streak in the NAC regular season action to 20 games, after entering the season 18-0-1 in the NAC all-time.
