Women's Soccer Blanks MBBC For Shutout Win In Season Opener

River Forest, IL - The Dominican University women's soccer program, tabbed to finish third in the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, opened the 2008 campaign with a 3-0 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Monday afternoon.

Senior standout Mayra Camacho (Summit, IL), the 2005 Lake Michigan Conference Player of the Year, netted what proved to be the game-winning goal just seconds into the second half to give Dominican a 1-0 advantage. The score was Camacho's 75th career tally and 23rd game-winner.

Ten minutes later, in the 56th minute of play, freshman Nallely Arreola (Wheeling, IL) scored her first collegiate goal with freshmen Liz Phipps (Bloomington, IL) and Karly Kuranda (St. Charles, IL) picking up their first assists in Stars' uniforms on the play.

Sophomore Michelle Reynoso (Burbank, IL) rounded out the Stars' scoring with her first tally of the season in the 71st minute to lift the Stars to the 3-0 victory.

The Stars held an 18-6 advantage in shots and 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Dominican will travel to Decatur, Ill., on Thursday to take on Millikin University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
