The Dominican University women's volleyball team became the third fall program at Dominican University to earn a trip to the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) championship match, following the footsteps of the Stars' men's and women's soccer programs which earned trips to their respective title games earlier in the week.
The excitement kicks off on Friday afternoon as the women's soccer program, who topped the MSOE Raiders 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon, travel to Aurora University to take on the Spartans in the 2009 NAC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship game. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Aurora's Vago Field. The Stars, 10-8-0 on the season, captured the second-seed in the tournament by posting a 9-2-0 mark during the conference regular season. The Stars will look to knock off the three-time defending NAC Tournament Champion, Aurora, to earn the program's first trip the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships.
The men's soccer team, 13-1-3 on the 2009 campaign, ran through the NAC regular season for their fourth-straight regular season championship with an 11-0-0 conference record. On Saturday, the Stars will host the MSOE Raiders for a 1:00 p.m. tilt on Dominican's West Campus Field. After a first-round bye, the Stars dumped the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 3-0 in the NAC semifinals for the team's eighth win in as many games. Dominican will be in search of its fourth straight NAC Tournament title and eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships.
The women's volleyball team upended neighborhood rival Concordia University Chicago and the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in the NAC Tournament en route to the program's first trip to the NAC Tournament title game. Dominican, now 21-12 on the season, will host the Lakeland College Muskies on Saturday night after claiming the tournament's top-seed with a 10-2 record during the NAC regular season. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Dominican's Igini Sports Forum.
