The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2009-2010 NABC Honors Court with Dominican University’s Milos Mandic (Munster, Ind.), Jason Pontone (Oak Park, Ill.) and Marquis Turley (Grand Rapids, Mich.) all landing on the list of college basketball’s elite academic student-athletes. To qualify for the award, Turley, Pontone and Mandic each maintained a 3.2 minimum grade point average or higher as a junior while lettering with the Stars last season. Turley and Mandic, both juniors, are working to a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the university while Pontone, also a junior, is majoring in Accounting.
Turley was the Stars’ leading scorer last season, averaging 20.9 points per game while Mandic led the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.4 rebounds per game. Pontone, a 6’6 low-post player, appeared in 26 of the Stars’ 27 games, averaging over 11 minutes per game while shooting nearly 48 percent from the field.
