Amarantos and Tabaka Claim NAC Doubles Crown

Dominican University's number one doubles team of Kevin Amarantos (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and Greg Tabaka (Chicago, Ill.) captured the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men's Tennis doubles championship, knocking off Concordia University Wisconsin’s Brian Tresedder and Skip Turner in the championship round, 8-6.
 
The Stars’ top doubles team runs their record to 15-2 on the season and is 25-8 over the last two season, including a trip to the NAC quarterfinals last season.
 
The Stars’ duo began the tournament with an 8-2 victory over Rockford Matt Saelens and Mladen Ubiparipovic before knocking off Concordia Wisconsin’s Russell Johnson and Taylor Shaffer 8-3 in the quarterfinals.  In the semifinals, Amarantos and Tabaka got the best of MSOE’s Eric Klamrowski and Juan Montenegro, 8-6 to earn the trip to the finals.
 
Dominican’s number two doubles squad fell in their first match of the tournament, falling to Edgewood’s Tim Morgan and Michael Wanta, 8-2.
 
In singles action, Amarantos made a run all the way to the quarterfinals before falling to MSOE’s Montenegro, 6-2, 6-4.  Amarantos went 2-1 in the singles brackets, posting victories over Rockford’s Trey Welch (6-0, 6-0) and Concordia Chicago’s Tim Staffeld (6-0, 6-4).
 
The Stars finished the 2011-2012 season, going 8-8 overall and 6-3 in the NAC.
