The Dominican University men's tennis team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) action on Saturday in Wisconsin, falling to the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons, 8-1, before dominating the Lakeland University Muskies, 9-0. The split pushes the Stars to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
"Today was a very productive day for us," commented Troy Tonsil. "In the first match, we played hard but played against a very good CUW team, who will be at the top of the conference standings. They played with great precision and skill. It was good to see #Tarik Abdullah# put together a great showing to win his match in his singles flight in a decisive manner."
Abdullah picked up the lone point for the stars against Concordia Wisconsin, beating the Falcons' Nathan Raskin, 6-1, 6-2, at number four singles before picking up win number two of the day against the Muskies' Nate Nanda, 6-2, 6-2.
The Stars took all three doubles points from the Muskies', 8-0, 8-4, 8-1.
"In the 2nd match against Lakeland, we were aggressive from the start and played smart tennis throughout. It was good to see each match go in our favor and it's a great way to finish the day. We kept the pressure on Lakeland at the start of doubles and we maintained the momentum during singles."
