The Dominican University women's tennis team split a pair of Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) dual matches on Saturday, tallying their first win of the season against Alverno College 6-3 before dropping a match-up against Wisconsin Lutheran 9-0.
The Stars won the numbers two and three doubles matches against the Inferno and four singles flights, including a dominant singles performance by senior
Alexis Hoskins, who won in two sets without giving up a game.
"Mixed results today," commented
Troy Tonsil, the Stars' second-year head coach. "It was great to see us pick a much needed win in conference. We were short-handed today, but rallied around each other and put together our best effort of the season against Alverno. We played smart, simple tennis and it carried the day. I thought
Gladys Bautista did a really good job in finding great opportunities to make an impact and it resulted into a single and doubles win for her. She has been working hard all year."
"We played a very poised and balanced Wisconsin Lutheran team," continued Tonsil. "They played good defense against us and made timely shots throughout the match. They are poised to do well in the spring. Though it was a split today, it was amazing to see our ladies play and see their hard work payoff."
The results put the Stars at 1-10 on the season and 1-6 in NACC play. They will close out the season with a pair of home duals against MSOE and Edgewood College next Saturday.
