The River Forest Rivalry Series did not open the way the Stars had hoped, with the Dominican University women's tennis team falling to the Concordia Chicago Cougars, 8-1.
The lone point came in singles action as Juliana Nieza won her matchup in two sets, topping Concordia's Callie Strayer, 6-4, 6-3.
"Disappointing loss today," commented
Troy Tonsil, the Stars' head tennis coach. "I thought we fought really hard but were not able to put together consistent points to earn a few more matches. It was nice to see Juliana earn a singles win. She has been working hard all season to find her rhythm and it paid off today."
The loss drops the Stars to 0-5 overall, 0-3 in NACC play. They will have a short turnaround, traveling to Mequon, Wisconsin, on Saturday to play the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons at 2:00 p.m.
