Dominican University SAAC Promotes Mental Health Awareness

10/8/2025 10:37:00 AM

Sunday marked the first official day of student-athlete mental health week which was established in 2018 by the Hilinski's Hope Foundation following the death of former University of Washington quarterback, Tyler Hilinski, by suicide. This week aims to promote mental health awareness, education, and resources for student-athletes across the nation, across all collegiate levels.

On our campus, our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has taken initiative, and you may see some promotion of mental health awareness, education, and resources across our social media platforms, pre-game PSA announcements, and student-athletes wearing variations of a green ribbon with the #3 in honor of Hilinski. We will be having a member of the Wellness Center attend our October SAAC meeting on Thursday to educate our student-athletes on the warning signs of suicide and ways to be good teammates and friends in times of need.

And if you would like to support, you can stop by Tyler Stibal's office, Power 028 (located by the Fitness Center) to grab some promotional items to show your support of student-athlete mental health: lapel pins, wristbands, hair ties, ribbon, stickers, and tattoos! Student-athletes can also deliver to your office if you would like!

You can learn more about Tyler and his story, as well as the Hilinski's Hope Foundation, here.
