"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."  - U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, 1972Â
Dominican University Athletics has developed and executed a comprehensive Title IX compliance structure which ensures equal access, opportunity and treatment for all prospective student-athletes, current student-athletes and staff. The athletics department fosters an environment where all are recognized, supported and welcomed, particularly regarding an individual's gender, sexual identity and orientation. As such, the Dominican Athletics has implemented a system to underline two core foundations of the Title IX program:Â
-
Championing practices for achieving gender equity to mitigate bias, implicit and/or explicit, and inequalities towards all members of Dominican Athletics, student-athletes and staff, particularly, the underrepresented gender;Â
-
Maintaining a healthy and safe environment where all athletics department members (student-athletes, coaches, administrators) can flourish free of behavior or conduct that is considered severe, pervasive or objectively offensive.Â
Accommodating Interest
Within the Three Prong Method, Dominican University achieves compliance through the use of:
Prong 3: Effectively Accommodating Interests and Abilities of the underrepresented gender: The interests and abilities of the underrepresented gender must be "fully and effectively" accommodated to satisfy Prong 3. Dominican University uses the following methods to assess interest:
- Student Interest Survey
- Admitted Student Survey
- Tracking of Intramurals and Recreational Programs
- Individual Interviews
- Analysis of Youth Sport Landscape
- Analysis of High School Landscape
- Analysis of NCAA Landscape
- Annual Overall Analysis of Data
- Title IX Committee
- Sport Elevation Policy
Treatment
In addition to insuring that interest is accommodated, Dominican University has also created policies to insure the fair treatment of its student-athletes. Policies have been created for the following areas:
- Equipment and supplies
- Scheduling of games and practice times
- Travel
- Hotel rooming
- Transportation
- Per diem
- Tutoring
- Coaching
- Locker rooms, practice and competitive facilities and services
- Medical and training facilities and services

Through these efforts, the Dominican Athletics is committed to creating a quality experience where each member can focus on displaying their gifts, pursuing their interests while being assured their total well-being is cared for and held as the highest priority.Â
