Sophomore
Adrienne Ryba scored a pair of first half goals as the Dominican University women’s soccer team topped the Edgewood College Eagles to pick up their eighth consecutive victory, improving to 9-2-0 on the season and a perfect 7-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC).
Ryba’s first goal came in the ninth minute of play as the Stars took advantage of the first of three first half corner kick opportunities. Junior
Liz Phipps played a ball to Kelly Gerwitz (Florissant, Mo.) who served the ball into the box where Ryba was able to run onto the end of it and beat Edgewood’s Kristi Frisch for what proved to be the game-winner.
Ryba then gave the Stars a two-goal cushion as she took the ball from an Edgewood defender and went 1v1 with Frisch and Ryba again won the battle. The score was Ryba’s team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper
Megan Schulz made sure the Stars’ two-goal lead was enough, posting her sixth shutout of the season. Schulz made a pair of saves on the afternoon, as Edgewood outshot the Stars 9-7.
Dominican will host Rockford College at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon in the first of three games in the next week for the Stars. On Wednesday, Dominican will travel to Monmouth College for a non-conference tilt with the Fighting Scots and then head to Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday.
