Volleyball Sweeps Defending NAC Champion

Looking to avenge last year’s five-set loss in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament Championship match, the Stars swept through Sheboygan, Wis., on Friday night, topping the Lakeland College Muskies 25-15, 25-18, 26-24. With the win, the Stars improve to 17-5 on the season and 7-1 in NAC play, sitting in a tie for second place in the conference with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons.
Senior Kasey Kiepura (Vernon Hills, Ill.) led the Stars’ charge, posting 13.0 points on the night with eight kills, two solo blocks and six block assists. Kiepura logged a .333 hitting percentage on the night with just two errors on 18 attack attempts.
Sophomore setter Jessica Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill.), with 33 assists, spread the ball around. Darcy Kammeier (Kirkwood, Mo.) shared game-high honors with nine kills while Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) added seven kills in the winning effort.
As a team, the Stars posted a .223 hitting percentage with 36 kills and just 13 errors on 103 total attack attempts. Jessica Gallagher (Bourbonnais, Ill.) matched Kiepura’s hitting percentage (.333) with four kills on nine attempts with just one hitting error. The 5’11 senior added two service aces for 6.0 points on the night.
Defensively, Dominican posted eight total blocks and Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) and Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) logged double-digit digs with 11 and 10 digs respectively.
Dominican will battle the Marian University Sabres in Fond du Lac, Wis., tomorrow. Match time is slated for 11:00 a.m. with the Stars looking to keep pace with the NAC front-runners.
