The Dominican University women’s volleyball team fell to the 14th ranked UW-Platteville Pioneers in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-16) in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship at Carthage College to close out the season with a program-best 26-10 overall record.
Freshman
Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) shined for the Stars, posting a total of 14.0 points with 12 kills and a solo block and a pair of block assists. Dezelski logged a .200 hitting percentage with a five errors on a total of 35 attacks. Fellow freshman
Becca Fritz (Mt. Carroll, Ill.) chipped in five kills while libero
Liz Yakey (Sun Prairie, Wis.) tallied a team-high 11 digs in the losing effort.
The match marked the Stars’ first appearance in the NCAA DIII Women’s Volleyball Championship as the Stars captured the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) automatic bid to the tournament, sweeping through the NAC Tournament with three-set wins over Rockford, Edgewood and Benedictine.
The Pioneers (32-3) advance to the regional semifinals and will meet the host Carthage College Lady Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
