The Dominican University women’s basketball team cruised to its ninth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, topping the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders 87-55 in Northern Athletics Conference play. The Stars now stand at 9-1 overall, equaling their win total from last season with 15 regular season games remaining, and a perfect 5-0 in NAC play.
Becky Christofferson (Summit, S.D.) overcame a box-and-one defense to score a game-high 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field, going 3-for-5 from three-point range, in a season-low 19 minutes. The Crusaders plan to take away Christofferson worked until the Stars’ sharp-shooter was able to connect on a pull-up jumper in transition to put the Stars ahead 28-12 with 9:13 remaining in the first half. Christofferson scored nine points over the next two minutes to stake the Stars to a 37-12 advantage.
Freshman
Siri Borrud (Deerfield, Wis.) added a season-high 11 points, connected on 3-of-4 attempts from three-point distance, in 12 minutes while
Katie Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) chipped in ten points in the winning effort.
As a team, the Stars shot 50 percent from the field (35-70) and 54 percent from three (12-22) while holding the Crusaders to 17-for-65 shooting.
Dominican will return to action next Saturday, when they host the North Park University Vikings for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.
