Women's Soccer Doomed By Indecisive Goal

Stars fall to Aurora in double overtime

The women's soccer team fell to Aurora in OT in the NAC Championship.
The Dominican University women's soccer team played the Aurora University Spartans to a scoreless tie into the 103rd minute before Stars' goalkeeper Jacqui Lani (Green Bay, Wis.) dove on a ball heading for the Stars' goal. After conferring with his linesman, the center referee signaled that the ball had crossed the goal line awarding the Spartans a 1-0 win in double overtime.

Lani, the NAC's top goalkeeper with a 0.46 goals against average, logged eight saves on the afternoon as Dominican was outshot 18-9 on the afternoon. However, the Stars had a number of opportunities to score in regulation, including a shot by freshman Elizabeth Ficek (Bloomington, Ill.) that beat the Spartans' goalkeeper before banging off the crossbar.

The loss closes the book on Dominican's season at 10-9-0 overall, taking second place in the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) with a 9-2-0 mark and finishing as the NAC Tournament runner-up to Aurora on Friday afternoon.
