Volleyball Cruises Past Alverno

The Dominican University women’s volleyball program cruised to a three-set (25-8, 25-4, 25-10) win over the Alverno College Inferno on Thursday night in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) action. The Stars, now 10-2 overall, hit at an impressive .417 clip, posting 35 kills on 72 attack attempts while committing just five errors.
Sophomore Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo.) paced the Stars with eight kills on ten attempts. The Stars’ 5’10 standout, tallied a game-high ten points, adding one service ace and a pair of block assists.
In limited action, Evelyn Gamboa (Chicago, Ill.) racked up seven kills while Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich.) added four kills in the winning effort. Sophomore Jessica Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill.) and Missy Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) split time at setter, compiling 17 assists and 11 assists respectively.
Defensively, Lawrence and freshman Mary Pollard (Naperville, Ill.) shared team-high honors with seven digs apiece.
The win was the Stars’ sixth three-set victory of the season and third straight, including Tuesday night’s three-set win over MSOE to open the 2010 NAC season.
Dominican will return to the courts on Wednesday, hosting the Rockford College Regents for a conference match at 7:00 p.m. in the Igini Sports Forum.
