The Dominican University women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to the Elmhurst College Bluejays on Wednesday to open the 2010 season. The Bluejays netted a pair of second half goals to drop the Stars in the season-opener for the second consecutive year.
The game was scoreless into the second half when Elmhurst netted the game’s two lone tallies just five minutes apart. In the 56th minute, senior Sarah Harvey put Elmhurst on the board, scoring off a rebound. Less than five minutes later, the Bluejays added an insurance score as Biba Beckwith beat the Stars’ Megan Schulz (Redford, Mich.) for the final goal of the game.
Schulz logged six saves in the losing effort, falling to 0-1-0 on the season.
Offensively, Dominican managed seven shots, putting six on frame. Junior Nallely Arreola (Wheeling, Ill.) logged a team-high three shots in the losing effort.
Dominican will return to the pitch on Saturday, traveling to St. Louis to take on the Webster University Gorloks. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at AB Soccer Park.
