Junior Lio Tovar (Cicero, Ill.) goal in the 69^th minute proved to be the only offense as the Dominican University men’s soccer team upended the University of Chicago Maroons, ranked fifth in the NSCAA Central Region poll, 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Tovar collected a loose ball 35 yards out and fired a shot that beat Chicago’s Chris Guisto, a junior goalkeeper. The score was Tovar’s first of the season and 14^th of his career.

The Stars, now 3-0-0 on the season, posted their third consecutive shutout to open the 2010 campaign with junior goalkeeper Maxwell Gutbrod (Slinger, Wis.) posting three saves in the winning effort.

Dominican will open Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) play on Saturday, hosting the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on the Stars’ West Campus Field.
