Stars Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Six

WATERTOWN, Wis. – After going five sets in last night’s match, the Stars would once again need all five against host Maranatha today to extend their win streak to six games and keep them perfect in Northern Athletics Conference play (6-0).  The win also improves their overall record to 14-4.

Dominican would take sets one and two by scores of 25-20 and 25-21, recording 15 and 16 kills, respectively, in the sets.  But host Maranatha (12-3, 3-2 NAC) would come back to take two of their own in sets three and four with scores of 25-22 and 25-20.  In the fifth and deciding set, the Stars would prove too much for the Crusaders, as they closed out the match with a 15-7 fifth set victory.

Five Stars would record double-digit digs on the day to defend the host Crusaders’ attack, led by Liz Yakey’s (Sun Prairie, Wis.) 24.  Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich./Ladywood) and Jess Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North) would also contribute with 13 digs apiece, while Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) recorded 12, and Cheyanne Kelly (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) had 10.

Leading the way offensively for the Stars were Jess Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North), who delivered a match-high 46 assists, while Dezelski and #Julie Schulenburg (Springfield, Ill.) knocked down 19 and 17 kills, respectively.  Schulenburg’s 17 was also her career-high, as she hit for .368 on the day.

The Stars are next in action on Oct. 5, as they host Lake Forest College in a non-conference matchup.
