Women’s Volleyball Stays Undefeated in Conference Play

AURORA, Ill. – The Dominican University women’s volleyball team tallied another Northern Athletics Conference win tonight at Aurora University, taking the match in straight sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-16). The win keeps their NAC record a perfect 10-0 and improves their overall record to 24 wins and just five losses.

The Stars handed out 38 kills in the set, led by the double-digit performances of Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) and Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich./Ladywood), who had 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Jess Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North) delivered 23 of the team’s 32 assists, which again accounted for more than the entire Aurora (7-23, 3-8 NAC) roster.

Kellie Van Voorhis (Union Mills, Ind./La Porte) also chipped in offensively, recording six kills on nine attempts for a .556 attack percentage, while Becca Fritz (Mount Carroll, Ill./West Carroll) was productive in her 10 attempts with five kills at a .500 clip.

The Stars also showed their strength on the other side of the net, as they muffled over 10 Spartan attacks on the night. Van Voorhis led the way by assisting four blocks, while Dezelski also contributed to three. Nearly every Stars player would contribute to the team’s 32 digs, as Dezelski and Becky Honerlaw (Waukesha, Wis./West) led the way with six apiece.

Up next for the Stars are the Eagles of Benedictine University - winners of nine straight matches - who will come to the Igini Sports Forum for a 10 a.m. match tomorrow, October 22. A win for the Stars will clinch the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference title.
