Stars Sweep Foresters

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – In their second meeting of the season, the Stars defeated the Foresters of Lake Forest College tonight 3-0 to extend their win streak to seven matches.   The 25-20, 25-16, 25-14 non-conference win also improves the Stars’ overall record to 15-4, while their NAC record remains a perfect 6-0.

Dominican used a balanced attack throughout the match, as four Stars would record seven or more kills on the night, with a match-high 26 assists coming from Jess Guerrieri (Plainfield, Ill./North).

Julie Schulenburg (Springfield, Ill.) followed up on her career-high performance on Saturday by leading the Stars in the first set with four kills and an assist. Claire Dezelski (Northville, Mich./Ladywood) and Jacy Lawrence (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) also chipped in offensively as Dezelski had three kills and Lawrence knocked down three of her own and served out two service aces to help give the Stars a 1-0 lead in the match.

Set two saw 14 kills by five different Stars en route to a .278 team attack percentage as Dominican would extend their match lead to 2-0.

Dominican would then trail 5-7 in set three before Schulenburg tallied her seventh kill of the night to earn the sideout, and the Stars would rally off seven more quick points with Becky Honerlaw (Waukesha, Wis./West) at serve.  The visiting Foresters (7-10, 1-1 MWC) would get a sideout to make the score 13-8 in favor of Dominican, but it would be as close as the visitors would manage as the set ended with five more kills and three more service aces by the Stars.

Dominican will look to stretch their win streak to 10 after the weekend, as they host Lakeland College on Friday, October 7 and Marian University and Robert Morris University on Saturday, October 8.
